The 44th International Saxophone Symposium, hosted by the U.S. Navy Band, features over 150 performances, masterclasses and lectures designed for musicians of all ages. First hosted in 1978, the International Saxophone Symposium annually features some of the most renowned saxophonists in the world while highlighting the prominence of the saxophone in both classical and jazz literature.
Saturday night's concert presents the Navy Band Commodores jazz ensemble with special guest Lucas Pino in an evening of big band and jazz music. Past soloists with the Commodores have included Eddie Daniels, Branford Marsalis, Donny McCaslin, Chris Potter, and Grover Washington, Jr.
This event is open to the public and no tickets are required. The U.S. Navy Concert Band will also perform a concert at 8 p.m. on Friday, January 12 with featured soloists Valentine Michaud, Kenneth Tse, and Chief Musician Jonathan Yanik.
