Chopin in Paris
In this concert of stunning piano music and illuminating commentary, Jeffrey Siegel presents the eminent Polish composer Frédéric Chopin and the gorgeous pieces he created while in Paris. Chopin reluctantly left his beloved Poland after the uprising, and settled in Paris where he achieved great celebrity. In this program, Siegel performs the Grand Polonaise in E-flat major, the magical Barcarolle, the lustrous G-flat Impromptu, as well as some of the composer’s Preludes and Mazurkas, while offering fascinating insight into Chopin and the creation of each work. “Jeffrey Siegel has everything: massive technique, musical sensitivity and character, wide tonal resources, immense reserves of power, and the ability to communicate” (Los Angeles Times). An always-popular Question & Answer session with the audience concludes the program.
The Young Artists Musicale, featuring school-aged piano students and sponsored by the Northern Virginia Music Teachers Association, begins at 6 p.m. in the main lobby.
Tickets: $44, $37, $26
