More Information

Join Mark Morris Dance Group for one of their upcoming livestreamed Listening Parties with Mark Morris and MMDG Music Director Colin Fowler as they delve into music of different genres and eras. Click here for more information about how to tune into the August 13 livestream at 8 pm. Registration will open on August 6 and you will be emailed with a link to view upon registering.

The event on August 13 at 8 p.m. will be centered around music from the 1920s and will include a live, online question-and-answer session with Morris and Fowler. A century ago, the world was recovering from a World War, forming a League of Nations, and rebuilding the global economy. What was music’s role in this decade of recovery and transition? As we look back 100 years, Morris and Fowler will listen to some of our favorite works from this decade of transition. Viewers may submit questions in advance or during the event. Morris and Fowler will play several short selections of music around a specific theme, each followed by an interactive discussion.

A company longtime presented by the Center for the Arts, the Mark Morris Dance Group was founded in New York City in 1980 by artistic director and choreographer Mark Morris. Hailed by The New York Times as “the most successful and influential choreographer alive, and indisputably the most musical.” Live music and community engagement are vital components of the Mark Morris Dance Group, which has toured with its own musicians, the MMDG Music Ensemble, since 1996. The Mark Morris Dance Center, opened in Brooklyn in 2001, is the home of the Dance Group and provides educational opportunities in dance and music to people of all ages and abilities.
