After the success of Virginia Opera’s La Bohème broadcast last month Virginia Opera and the Virginia Symphony Orchestra announced the next opera broadcast is Romeo and Juliet Thursday, May 28, at 7:00 p.m. The Virginia Opera will present an introduction from Maestro Adam Turner prior to the beginning of the performance’s start at 7:30 p.m. From the original program: “A lush new production of Gounod’s classic opera, Romeo and Juliet will immerse you in sparkling duets and lovely waltzes based on the Shakespeare play of the same title. From the opening scenes when Romeo first sets eyes on Juliet, the story of true love and deception, joy and tragedy, hurtles toward the heartbreaking certainty that this story cannot end well. A classic for lovers of all ages, Romeo and Juliet reminds us that love does, indeed conquer time and space.” Virginia Opera’s Romeo and Juliet was performed at the Center for the Arts in February 2016. The broadcast will be released live on Virginia Opera’s Youtube Channel on Thursday, May 28 at 7:00 PM. The video will be available for on-demand viewing through June 11.
